Today, Farrell is best known as a producer of type and rideability, but before his breeding career took off, he was purchased by Blue Hors as a premium stallion at the Hanoverian licensing in 2013 and was subsequently named premium stallion in Danish Warmblood in 2014. After his first breeding season, he unfortunately fractured a splint bone and could not complete his 35-day test, which meant he lost his covering permit for 2015. After a break, he successfully returned as a 4-year-old, completing his 35-day test in autumn 2015 with 856.5 points, including 9 for trot and 9.5 for rideability.
As a 6-year-old, Farrell scored 9.04 at the Danish Equestrian Federation’s young horse championship qualifier with rider Allan Grøn – marking the beginning of his rapid climb in sport.
With Nanna Skodborg Merrald, Farrell made his international debut at the World Cup Vilhelmsborg in 2020, earning two top placings in Prix St. Georges and Intermediaire I. Highlights included 3rd place in the Prix St. Georges with 74.5% and a national win in Intermediaire I with 77%. The pair went on to victories at Horses & Dreams in Hagen, Le Mans, the Bundgaard Byg Cup with a record-breaking 82% in the final, and a CDI1* Prix St. Georges win at CDI Herning with 74.206%.
“He has a fantastic mind, very straightforward, extremely sweet and kind. He learns quickly and doesn’t stress over new exercises. He’s the class’s handsome boy who knows he’s attractive and likes to show it – he enjoys drawing attention to himself,” says Nanna Skodborg Merrald.
His sire Fürstenball has had a meteoric career, passing on type and rideability to his offspring. By Fürst Heinrich out of a Donnerhall mare, Fürstenball has produced over 90 licensed sons and remains one of the most influential stallions of this century, topping the German breeding index along with his sons Follow Me, Fürsten-Look – and, of course, Farrell.
His damsire Dacaprio is known for producing elegant and highly rideable dressage horses. His daughter FBW Dejavu, ridden by Nadine Plaster, won the Bundeschampionate in 2004, took bronze at the World Young Horse Championships in 2005, and placed 4th in 2006. In the third generation is Wolkenstein II, one of Weltmeyer’s best sons, with over 40 licensed stallions and more than 70 state premium mares to his credit.
Farrell’s damline has also produced the licensed stallions Wandervogel, Derano, and Blue Hors Future Cup, as well as the 2013 World Champion of 5-year-old dressage horses, Scara Boa, and the international dressage horses Winyamaro and Tric Trac.
