The world-class stallion Blue Hors Zack began his career as the champion stallion at the KWPN Stallion Licensing at the age of three, where he was purchased by Blue Hors. Shortly afterwards, he was approved in Danish Warmblood and was, from a very young age, extensively used—particularly in Danish and German breeding. In sport, Zack has been a stallion in constant development. He only made his Grand Prix debut at the age of 12, and he continues to progress.

Zack’s sire, Rousseau, won his performance test in dressage in Ermelo. In 2002, he also won the Pavo Cup in the Netherlands with the highest score ever achieved at that time. Both guest riders awarded him a score of 10.0. As a 5-year-old, he first won the stallion class in ’s-Hertogenbosch, followed by the silver medal at the World Championships for Young Horses in Verden.

Zack is the mare Orona’s second foal. Her first offspring, by the Florestan son Neostan, won Z-level (M-dressage) in the Netherlands as a 6-year-old. Orona herself has placings in M-dressage and completed an IBOP mare performance test with an excellent result. She is by the Grand Prix stallion Jazz, who, in addition to being one of the most widely used Dutch breeding stallions, also competed at the highest international level. Moreover, Jazz has for many years ranked among the very top of the WBFSH list of dressage stallions.

“He has been an incredibly strong and durable horse, who has hardly ever been ill or injured, and every single day he is super eager and motivated to work—even the day after a big show, when he is supposed to have a day off.”

    – Daniel Bachmann Andersen, former rider of Blue Hors Zack

Zack made his international Grand Prix debut at the age of 13, from which point he and Daniel’s journey to the world elite took off like a comet, quickly becoming part of the Danish national team. They represented Denmark at the 2018 WEG in Tryon, finishing as the best Danish combination in the Grand Prix with a 10th place. This was followed by victories in World Cup qualifiers in Herning and ’s-Hertogenbosch, a 7th place at the 2018 World Cup Final in Paris, and a 4th place at the 2019 World Cup Final in Gothenburg.

At the Danish Dressage Championships, the pair finished 8th in 2018 and went on to win the national championship title in 2019. They achieved international victories and top placings in Amsterdam, Neumünster, Paris, Uggerhalne, Aachen, Hagen, Darmstadt, Salzburg, and more. In 2019, they won the CDIO5* Grand Prix Freestyle in Falsterbo with over 85%, and at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam, they placed 7th individually with 83.711% in the Grand Prix Freestyle. Zack closed the FEI competition year 2019 ranked 6th on the world dressage rankings, making him the highest-ranked stallion in dressage sport worldwide.

Ranked 10th on the FEI World Dressage Rankings in 2020.

In breeding, Blue Hors Zack has proven to be an excellent match for mares by Blue Hors Don Schufro, Blue Hors Romanov, De Niro, Blue Hors Don Romantic, among others—but in fact, he complements the vast majority of bloodlines.

He sires uphill, well-framed horses with three outstanding gaits, especially with excellent mechanics in trot and canter. He is ideally suited for mares with good length in the topline and suppleness in their movement.

For his tremendous success and positive influence in breeding, Zack was named an Elite Stallion in Danish Warmblood and Stallion of the Year in 2014. He is the sire of more than 39 licensed stallions—many of them premium and champion stallions—as well as a large number of medal-winning and premium mares. His offspring have won everything from performance tests and young horse championships to World Championships for Young Horses and all the way up to international Grand Prix.

From his very first foal crop came the champion stallion Glock’s Zonik, double Dutch Champion under Edward Gal, WEG finalist, European Championship finalist, and World Cup finalist. The same crop also produced Blue Hors Zepter, with several international Grand Prix victories. From his second foal crop came the champion stallion Sezuan, who with Germany’s Dorothee Schneider became triple World Champion for Young Horses as a 5-, 6-, and 7-year-old. Many other offspring are on their way into international top sport, including Zigzag, Zap Zap, Zome Zin, Blue Hors Zatchmo, Blue Hors Zee Me Blue, among others.

In his mature years, Blue Hors Zack is more relevant than ever, still siring champion stallions and highly approved mares in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark. At the 2019 World Championships for Young Horses, Zack was the most strongly represented stallion, with several offspring in the finals, such as the Danish Warmblood silver medal mare Straight Horse Ascenzione and the KWPN champion stallion Jameson RS2. His sons Zonik and Sezuan also had multiple offspring in the finals and among the medalists. At Blue Hors, we have always believed in Zack, and all signs indicate that his successful offspring are well on their way to securing his place in history as one of the most influential stallions in modern dressage breeding.
