Home Advantage Paid Off as Denmark Stormed to Victory at Stutteri Ask

Denmark was in outstanding form at the first qualifier of the Longines EEF Series North Region on home ground at Stutteri Ask. They led the competition from start to finish and secured the victory ahead of Poland and Germany.

The course was tight, and fault-free rounds were a rarity on Gerard Lachat’s track. However, the host nation managed two of them, as their first two riders, Zascha Nygaard Lill on the 12-year-old Primavera and Caroline Rehoff Pedersen on the 13-year-old Hanoverian gelding Golden Eye, both produced double clear rounds without time penalties.

It was absolutely amazing today, a fantastic feeling. It was actually the first time I’ve ever ridden a clear round for the Danish team in a Senior Nations Cup – and then I rode two. It was an incredible day for me,” said Caroline.

“I’ve always dreamed of winning a Longines watch, and I didn’t think when I woke up this morning that today would be the day, so I’m over the moon and really proud of my team.”

Denmark’s third rider, Søren Møller Rohde on the 11-year-old Holsteiner mare Grace Ask, finished with a total of five – four faults in the first round and one time penalty in the second – which gave Denmark an unassailable lead before their final rider even entered the arena.

“I’m really proud of my team today. The horses and riders delivered excellent performances, and it’s always special to win, but winning on home ground means so much to me – and I know it’s the same for the Danish riders who competed today,” said Danish team coach Bo K. Møller.

“We’re very happy, and now we move on towards the European Championships, and hopefully we’ll also qualify for the Longines EEF Series Final later this year.”

With the victory secured, Denmark’s last rider, Andreas Schou on Darc de Lux – a 14-year-old Holsteiner stallion who had already jumped a clear round in the first – chose to save the horse and did not start the second round.

Poland took second place after strong performances from Krzysztof Ludwiczak on Vestari and Wojciech Wojcianiec on Aliean Zin’Galeriani, who together collected just one time penalty.

Jan Vinckier’s Belgian team finished on five, seven faults ahead of Germany, who are only eligible for points in the Central Region qualifiers.

Finland, with riders Niclas Aromaa on Cascalinus and Anna-Julia Kontio on Eight Mile both jumping double clears but picking up time penalties, finished in fourth place. The USA came fifth, and Sweden ended sixth.

Only three other combinations managed double clear rounds: Taizo Sugitani and Quincy 194’s fault-free rides helped Japan to seventh place; Robin Muhr and Galaxy HM delivered two clear rounds to secure eighth for Israel – competing in the Longines EEF Series for the first time this year; while Santiago Nunez Riva and Chakira Z’s zero score contributed to Spain finishing ninth.

The Netherlands placed 10th, Brazil 11th, and Norway – last year’s winners – failed to complete as a team this time, leaving them at the bottom of the table.
